Discard ò pile count jumps higher or stays

I've noticed the discard pile number jumps from 10 to 15 to 20 to 30 pretty regularly and sometimes it's by 5s others 10s, other times there will be 3 cards added and the number never changes. I find this really confusing and would like to know what it represents.

I don't know for certain, but I suspect the count is rough and so it rounds up or down to either the nearest 5 or 10 after a "specific" number of cards are reached.
ie/ up to 10 cards exact number is shown, then from 10-60 rounded to nearest 5.
But that is just me guessing....

The count is intentionally vague at pile counts greater than 10. Because many people are lousy at figuring the exact size of a stack of cards (and it's not really relevant to know whether there are 67 or 65 cards in the draw pile).
