Make chat language sensitive

Post by LHCper »

In my language the English word for "end game", is "s l u t". Every time I chat in Swedish near end game the BGA chat complains and threatens to ban me.

I think the chat should not do this, especially not in games with friends. I a player is misbehaving, then the others can report the player instead.

So please remove this filter, or use an AI to figure out if it is "bad words" or just a regular sentence.

https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=9903 proposed in 2018, so I'm sure it will be implemented any day now.

Ah, yes it seems to be an old issue, and nothing has happend in 6 years, so I guess it is not prioritized.

A buddy of mine was moderated because he used his native language.
3 players from country A (multiple languages in profile, english, native, etc)
4th player greek (may I note this is a language which dies not contain latin letters, cyrillic. Only greek in the profile, not english)

3 players communicate in their native language. Greek dude flagges on of them.

BGA moderated one of the 3 players : it is insensitive to speak in a language another player does not understand.

Just be advised that this can happen. I‘ll also let our discord server know (around 700 people that play BGA). Seems we have to use english all the time then.

Would be a shame if you lost your money that way.

This was done by one of the new volunteers who misunderstood something in their training. The player appealed and had the verdict overturned. We spoke to the moderator and explained that it is fine to speak in your own language on BGA, as long as you remain polite (no insults, no curse words, etc). For many languages we also have native speaking moderators, but not yet for all.
