Disappointing

Post by david060742 »

Was excited to see Darwin's Journey had come to Beta as it's a favourite game of mine. I couldn't be more disappointed. The jumpy interface makes it almost impossible to keep up with what is going on. I have played the game in RL many times but I could not follow what was going on. There seems to be no zoom function to make it easier to fit the board and players boards on the screen better. The jumping from player board to main board and back and then, worse, changing which player board is showing at the top creates mass confusion. This needs A LOT of work

Check the options in the top right.

You can click the "lock" icon to toggle the auto focus on and off ( I agree, it's better to have it off).
Click the "Cog" to see options to zoom the board and player board.

I couldn't disagree with you more on your overall view, this is one the the best game implementations I have played on BGA.

I totally agree. This bothers me too.

Lock the boards and it's all good.

I really like the interface overall. Very clear which actions you have going on.
The only thing that sometimes confuses me ( in turn based games) if the enveloppe rewards step.

I agree. Very good implementation.

I totally disagree with you. I love the implementation, for me it is much clearer and easier to navigate than other complex big board games, like Arnak or Ark Nova for example. Fantastic job, kudos to all the devs involved! I only hope there's a plan to implement the Fireland expansion as well.

I always find it kind of funny as a developer about what players complain without checking if there are game settings / options to tweak the game to their needs. Actually I put a lot of thought into this implementation but you surely can't make it right for everyone.

Lol, I think, Darwin's Journey is actually one of the BEST game implementations ever on BGA, me and my friends really enjoy the game here, it looks great and modern and I wonder how the developer has managed it. Well done!

Sometimes I wonder that myself. ;)

Happy to hear you're enjoying it.

Just wanted to add that I'm also a big fan of the "visual action log" in this implementation of Darwin's Journey. I find it faster and easier to parse than the "long log of text-lines" that other heavy games have, and find navigating the "please re-play the turns I missed while offline" flow to be faster and clearer.

*Really* looking forward to the "official release" of this implementation!
