Bad karma in arena games

Post by Rita4321 »

I have a problem with playing in Arena.
I play mistly from my phone, and sometimes waiting half an hour or much more for a game to start.

So i narurally do other things in these times, and check from time to time if a game started.

And no it rarely works...

It was the last 3 times too... i see that im still in "opponents searching" mode and then i see that ups.. i got kicked out AGAIN cause i couldnt start a game.

So i have well 47 points karma again.... and min. dont know how much points.:(

I dont think its my fault, ALL my negative karma comes from this. Not for leaving game, just missing the start.

I dont think i am the only one experiencing this.

It is just in Arena cause other play modes have a verifying
button before start.

And yes i can play 30 cant stops to get more karma but i really dont like the game anymore.

Thanks for helpful comments

Missing the start is your fault.

I mean people should abandon games where this happens, booting the people is poor etiquette to begin with.

Is there no notification thing you can turn on though to alert you though? That's how it works on desktop. The only real workaround they could implement are a confirmation screen where your opponents remain hidden.

Well to a point but u have to understand there are no notifications... screen is still showing 2 opponents searching. How should i know it? With multilple refresh buttons AND then pushing the green icon sometimes i land in time. Sometimes i join another table and app says :
" u cant join already in game" and i hurry to push THAT button and im on time. Or not :)

Well maybe i should drop Arena alltogether. I have many error messages there too.

Wasting the time of other people who were both waiting to start and paying attention is also poor etiquette and there is no disincentive to stop doing it if there's no penalty. The OP is considering altering their behavior, which is exactly what is supposed to happen.

But nobody is not turning up on purpose, it's obvious what's happened, you're just making the site worse and unwelcoming for players for something they don't even realise they're doing. Timing those players out is also bad for the games as a whole, as it then just takes ELO out of the game, because no-one gains, but you tank that player's ELO for nothing. Anyone engaging in this sort of behaviour is not particularly a player I'm interested playing with, and that seems consistent with the players I speak with.

You are ignoring the negative experience of people who were waiting eagerly for a game to start, then had a no show.

It doesn't matter that it wasn't on purpose. I have missed the start of games as well. I'm not pretending to be an angel. But what I didn't do was come whining to the forums. It is my responsibility, and I don't try to make excuses for it and I deserved to take a karma hit for it. I changed my behavior so that if I'm waiting for an unpopular game I keep the window it is in open in my line of site. And if I decide I'm tired of waiting I quit the game by hitting "cancel" or the appropriate button instead of just closing the tab or window.

What are those people gaining to their experience by timing the player out? Nothing, just ruining the experience for someone else and others. They can just hop back in the queue no problems. It's behaviour like this that makes gaming communities unwelcoming.

I have never missed the start of a game either, but I see this attempted behaviour all the time, and it's just bad for the game.

They gain a lower chance of it happening again.

You have no idea how long someone has been waiting, and seem perfectly willing to devalue that time given that you still have not acknowledged that there is anything at all wrong with letting some breathe a sigh of relief that the game is finally starting only to have a no show. I haven't looked at your history, so maybe you only play games that fire off within seconds of queuing.

Yes, expelling someone is unwelcoming to people who place themselves in a position to be expelled.
