#27 - Solo Challenge [November 2024] ENDED

Post by montybojangles »

The Mad Androids return! The new solo challenge is to play the Bescods against the automa of the month, the Hadsch Hallas, on the RANDOM map. Check that the seed in the automa score panel is 17304624. It is important that you read the Rules section for more details, especially if the seed is not 17304624.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this challenge is for you. The goal is simple: have fun and get a high score in solo mode. Thanks to the BGA set-up, you can easily compare your score, watch replays of games and learn different ways of playing a faction. (There's more guidance on how to view replays at/near the end of the May 2023 challenge.) Play serenely at your leisure: there is no timer pressure!

This month's applause goes to Mallumän, who resumed their winning ways. Well done! Thank you to all who tried the challenge: you are the elite.

There's elite rank for the top 5 players with winning games and cadet rank for everyone else. Don't be shy of sharing losing games - it happens to everyone.

1st step: Create a new table. Select Training or Friendly mode and RANDOM map. Choose 1 player/Solo and click on Start game. Select the red box Automa of the month (Hadsch Hallas).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Bescods. Check that the seed is 17304624 (in the player score panel). If it isn't, start again using the alternative starting method (below).
4th step: Play the game. Post your score(s), mentioning the chosen difficulty (see the format below).

Alternative starting method: Start the game with RANDOM map selected >> Choose the Hadsch Hallas faction card (as you would for a normal game). Set the custom seed (17304624 for this challenge), which is next to the heading 'Choose Automa Difficulty Level', and Select the Automa difficulty >> Choose Bescods.

Players usually insert the link of their game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played) and mention which openings, tech tracks and other actions have been crucial for them (e.g. RL+2M. Economy, aiming for advanced tech tile on AI).

Ideally, use this format: YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g.: Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game, with aim of taking advanced tile on Terraforming).

And don't forget to have fun!

Here's an example game:

montybojangles 192 vs Automa 152 - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=583135200 - 2RL+1m opening, 4+1 feds, 2 advanced tech tiles worth 23 VP.

Good luck!

Went lab+mine+tp opening, went science->terraforming, then nav+ai. All to the 5th level at the end. Terra5 on round4, advanced tech from terra for 18 vp. In the end was left with 3 qic, so there is some room for improvement with this apporoach

Thank you for being the first to post, and a nice game too. If anybody tries them it will be interesting to see how the different automa levels influence scores.

Welcome to the solo challenge, and I hope you enjoyed the experience. I found myself very engaged with your game, from the trading station heavy opening to making use of the Bescods' special ability to gaiaform in round 5. It feels as if you were not far from a win. Being a bit of a game stats nerd I noticed that you spent more on passive charging (including 3 for 4) than is typical, which might be something to consider?

This seems like quite a tough challenge - was unable to win against Ultoma despite several tries, so switched to Automa.

Mallumän 211 vs. Automa 155

Started with Ac+2 mines, second round up in navi and big expansion. Then up in sci+started gaiaforming. In the end, got 5 feds, maxed out navi, AI, gaia and sci, and got the 2vp/gaia planet advanced tech.

Thanks for setting this up again!

Thanks!
Tried with Ultoma - basically got the same scores, here is the best try so far

Having only one scoring booster doesn't help. 200+ is still a great result! Bescods seem very flexible: we've had four different openings, and you've made gaiaforming work well for them.

Ooh, so close to 200! Your win deserves a big shout-out.

There's less than two weeks to tackle this month's solo challenge and post scores.

I've set 21 challenges following the great work done by Marcus Aurelius and feel like this one should be my last, mainly because the level of interest has fallen away. A big thank you to everyone who has ever taken part. If anyone would like to take over the challenge - in its current form or a different one - then message me as I can suggest some things to help.

Shame that it will be the last one. I just started :<.

Rjiuk3566 108 vs 158 Automata - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=593352486

First time as Bescods and generally I'm new to Gaia so I lost by a lot, but I'll learn
