Heavy Rain Expansion Rules Primer

Post by RazorOz »

Flooded Spaces

Found only on the Japan track, if you start the round on a flooded space shifting down a gear in Step 1 costs 1 extra heat. This means shifting down 1 gear will cost you 1 heat, shifting down 2 gears will cost you 2 heat.

If you do not have any heat you will be unable to shift down gears in these spaces, if you do not have enough playable cards to play in your current gear you will follow the 'cluttered hand' rule from the base game.

Chicanes

Chicanes are found on both the Japan and Mexico track. They are composed of two consecutive corners with the same speed limit, denoted by a blue curb (as opposed to the standard red curb) to make them stand out on the track.

Road condition tokens from the weather module that apply to corners (+1 or -1 to the speed limit, or heat to overspeed) apply to both corners of chicane.

The corner speed limit check in Step 7 is performed at each corner separately the same as the base game. This means if you clear both corners of a 4 speed limit chicane with a speed of 6 it will cost you 4 heat. If you for example only have 3 heat, you will spin out at the 2nd corner of the chicane, you will discard all your heat and be placed on the space before the 2nd corner of the chicane in gear 1.

In Championship mode, you may run into a press corner on a chicane. Note the press corner will only apply to the 2nd corner of a chicane.

Note: Road condition tokens that apply to sectors (free boost, free cooldown, no cooldown, slipstream modifiers) never apply to the spaces between two corners of a chicane. Sectors run up to the 1st corner of a chicane, and the next sector begins after the 2nd corner of a chicane.

Super Cool

Super Cool is a new symbol found on the new upgrades and sponsorship card from the expansion. Super Cool like other symbols is optional and used in step 5 (React step), you may look through your discard pile and return heat from it to your engine up to whatever number of super cool you have. You can activate this to look through your discard pile even if you have no heat cards in your discard.

Note: Super Cool can be used in no cooldown sectors.

Aggressive Legends

With the introduction of the Heavy Rain expansion, Legends can be more aggressive on some portions of some tracks (Great Britain, Japan, Mexico).

If a Legend starts on a space with a chevron above the diamond on the track, it can clear one extra corner this round, making them able to clear two corners in a turn from these spaces.

It would be useful if they could provide some of this info in-game (similar to how the weather tokens are dealt with). Especially useful for the flooded space where I see a lot of new players being confused.
