Timing of "each time" cards (such as pigswill when fencing)

Post by Samfolds »

I checked the compendium but could not find the answer...

Given that there are no timing indicator, should I be able to fence before receiving the pig from pigswill ("Each time you use the "Fencing" action space, you also get 1 wild boar"

I am asking because in some cards, the timing of the effect is clear :
e.g.1 bookshelf : "Immediately before each time you play an occupation (even before paying the occupation cost), you get 3 food."

e.g. 2 bookcase : "Each time after you play an occupation, you get 1 vegetable."

FWIW, I am trying to fence before getting the pig in one of my games and it won't let me : https://boardgamearena.com/3/agricola?table=339969985

Thanks in advance!

Using an action space timing is right after placing the farmer on the space and before getting the effects from that Space, so you can't fence before taking the pig

I’ve got this exact problem on my first competitive play. It seems counterintuitive. The action is build fences, the bonus is a free pig to put in the paddock. The game puts those actions the other way around - get the free pig and watch it wander off and then install some fencing! I might not have picked Pigswill for an update knowing this.

I had one sheep in the house that I’ve now discarded for the pig, built two paddocks and moved the pig into one but my lone sheep is long gone up the lane and I’m left with an empty paddock.
