How to chose whether a game is private or public?

Post by Cazi »

I would appreciate any guiding regarding how to turn a game private or public?

My issue is that I can't seem to be able to create a public turn-based Tzolk'in game. Whenever I create a new table, it's automatically set to private. When I create a Puerto Rico game, things are normal and I have a public table.

And ideas?

Check the settings under "restrict table access." Most likely, at one time you created a Tzolk'in table restricted to a certain group. When creating a new table, this site uses the settings that were used last (in this case, restricting the table). Change from the private group to the hyphen, and it should work.

You need to work quickly, though, at least for turn-based games. Once the table has been created, table access can't be changed.

Thanks for the reply Jest.

I did check the "Restrict to Group" setting before posting here. It's on the default hyphen. After you replied, I tried to manually change it to some other option and then get back to the first choice, but the result is the same: I have a private game, where only invited players can join.

I usually test carefully all the options, read all the instructions, try to find forum posts about a subject, but in this case, I just can't find anything anywhere...

Sorry. I guess I assumed you were like the majority of internet users.... ;)

OK, I have no idea, then. Does it happen with any other games? Also, what message is it giving that makes you know that it is private?

When starting a Tzolk'in game, it says: "Access restricted to: Invited players only (private game)", in the restrictions info area.

For all other games (I play Puerto Rico and Hearts) that message is empty and only starts saying something after imposing some restrictions. More, for those games I can restrict the game based on skill level, reputation indicators and for certain groups (my friends or the groups I belong to), but I can't seem to be able to restrict the game to "invited players only".

The logical thing I can think of is I am missing some interface option to make a game private or public. It can't be the fault of my computer, as both the machines I am using experience the same problem. Maybe it has something to do with my account?

Private games happen when you restrict the table so that nobody can join. So when you have neither beginners nor average nor good ... ticked. To make it public simply tick the options of player categories that you want to be able to join

So it's that simple, isn't it.... I thought I tried everything.

Thanks very much qwertasdfg! :D
