When is good time to concede?

Post by 0rsk1 »

Hi,
I usually concede games on (very basic) Yahtzee, when it's mathematically impossible to win. I think this is a good gesture. Why bother other players time, when outcome is obvious?

Do you think this is a a) nice gesture b) obscuring your statistics c) "we should play until end"?

I have been thinking about this a lot and today was a good day to start conversation about it. On first round I scored 1 point (Voluntary choice, ofc, since no other category was better) and opponent gets Yathzee.. so 1-50 at very first time to score. I asked my opponent if it's OK to concede (when necessary) ... and I was going to concede until my 1st Yathzee, followed by another...

So really two stories here, when to concede and you really should play until end to really see who's winning. :D

I concede when it is mathematically impossible to win. To me it is the polite thing to do and not waste each others time.

For me exception to this is if the opponent is scoring exceptionally well. It can be frustrating to be heading for a personal best only for your opponent to concede.

IMO if the result is decided long before the game would finish normally - it's totally fine to concede.

On the other hand if the game would only take another minute or less I think it's more respectful to just let it finish normally. Especially if it's already in the last turn.

I agree, I will continue a losing game if it looks like my opponent might have a record score.

I get annoyed when an opponent concedes when I am on for a record score.

You cannot concede in BGA multiplayer games (unless the game system supports it, such as Through the Ages).
Quitting is not equivalent to conceding.

Before conceding I look at my opponents scorecard.

If they are likely to score a very good or high score then I will play to the end - it is the polite thing to do.
