Final round

Sometimes the game finishes when I still have 4 spare spaces or more and I don't see the "final round" banner. Any idea why this would be? It's frustrating because I sometimes save adding cubes until the final round but then I miss out on points.

The end of the game is triggered when any of the players have 2 or less spare spaces on their board. So for example if you have 4 empty spaces, your opponent have 5 and your opponent fills 3 of their spaces (so there are only 2 left on their board, and still 4 on yours), the end of the game still wil be triggered. This happens often if you build high trees and mountains and your opponent builds mostly rivers or field.

When the end of the game is triggered, some players will get one more turn so that everyone has the same number of turns in the game. So if you're the starting player (you had the first turn in the game), the game can end instantly for you and if your opponent is the starting player, you can be sure to have one more turn after they fill their board. Because of this, it's important to look at what your opponent is doing, especially when near the end of the game and when you are the starting player.
