Bored of so much undoing in Azul

Post by GonzaloDLPG »

I used to play this game a lot until they removed the option to disable “undo” in the game. Azul is a fast and dynamic game and that's why I stopped playing it. I've started playing it again and it's still horrible to find those players who keep undoing their move. I just finished one in which in the same turn he chose 4 pieces of different colors... Please, put that option back.

A request like this specifically for Azul would get better traction in the Azul forum where there are already people complaining about it since July.

Some players may visualise better the central tile area by selecting colours in turn to see what is the effect upon the central accumulation. In that way ‘undo’ can be useful to help some people play and plan. It might speed their game, rather than spend time mentally having to figure out or making tallies on paper.

I agree, better to ask/discuss on the Azul game forum.

This is precisely contrary to BGA's Undo Policy
As a rule of thumb, on BGA we advise you to not undo moves.

Undo are painful for opponents, in real world and online. Some players may also use Undo to "test" situations while they should just think instead.
The undo policy was recently revised to allow undo under two situations:
1) To avoid a misclick
2) To take back moves from a complex series of actions

I am not sure to fully understand the issue : how the fact that he is undoing its move change anything about the pace if you have the same speed setting for the table ? What would be the difference between that kind of player and the one that just use its whole thinking time without moving anything to think stuff through in their head ?

Interesting but that’s a wiki written by site users not by BGA itself plus the policy’s audience seems to be game developers not players. The “you” in “we advise you to not undo moves” are developers not players. The section is a caution to developers to be judicious in building in undo steps. Indeed, my example of trying out tile selections would fall under the policy but it’s for the Azul developer to apply the policy. If players have access to an undo function then they would be free to make use of it in any way they wished, including trying out tile selection.

I think we agree on most of your response.

You are correct in that the advice is intended for developers. You're also correct in that players are allowed to use undo however they want. You're incorrect in stating that the policy is written by users. BGA employees have written the core policy. The latest big updates were made by Xate, a BGA admin.

My point in presenting the policy wasn't to critisize players, but to support the OP's suggestion. The policy goes right along with what he's saying.

I think we’re in wild agreement.

I was going by the line at the top of the wiki page. In theory I could go in and edit that policy page. There may be login or security to stop me.

The BGA community can edit it, but if you go into the revisions history you can see that the language being referred to originated with BGA admins (assuming you recognize those names).

I agree - bring back the option to stop undo's. In the WSBG - once you pick it up you have to use it and once you lay it down on your board and remove your hand you can not undo it.
