New Map Switzerland

Post by ddichandra »

So finally BGA will release new map for TtR which is Switzerland and this map become a variant of Ticket to Ride instead of different game such as TtR Europe. Have you guys ever played TtR Switzerland and what do you think about this expansion? Personally for me it’s great to have this expansion since I really like to play this expansion in Steam version.

I added the main differences in the How to play section : https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Gameh ... erland_map

And the multilanguage PDF rule on the game page.

Hey, great job in adding one more map, it's always a joy when something new gets released!

I just was wondering: was it really necessary to add it as an option of TTR USA instead of as a stand-alone game? I mean: I know Europe is a stand-alone game irl, it has its own set of trains and cards deck, while Switzerland doesn't, but games are extremely different, even more than USA and Europe. It doesn't really feel right for USA and Switzerland to share the same Elo imho.

It wasn't an easy choice.
The risk is splitting the community if we have too much different projects for Ticket to Ride. The maps are not really expansion but not standalone too, so it's an in-between that is hard to classify.

I play mostly Europe and then I saw Switzerland I thought it was going to either be stand alone or part of the Europe pack. Feels like Europe has more in common but I don't know,

Another thought is that if more standalone packs are added (like nordic countries) they could be together. So we have only three ticket to ride games. One for USA, one for Europe and one for the map packs so to speak.

Hi Thoun,
Like others TTR gamer, I will have prefered that TTR Switzerland not be with TTR USA or Europe as the Map is différent.
Like LillaJag, I will have like to have another TTR group for the others maps.

I agree Switzerland has more in common with Europe than with USA. Not geographically of course, I'm talking about gameplay. I could possibly see a Nordic+Switzerland section maybe, given the games are much more similar to each other than others (both 3p max, both use locos in a different ways, both have tunnels and force players to play in narrow routes, etc), but USA is totally another game.

Anyways I stand by my opinion that different maps really should have separate Elo, I hope something about it will be done honestly, or I'll never risk my rating in a game I barely know which shares it with another one I'm expert in.

And that third one could include Nordic Countries, UK, Pennslyvania London, France etc. Map packs/collection to explain shortly.

And I think if they can't Europe is a better place for them. I p,ay mostly Europe but I think it's less hard-core defenders on the game there. Ticket to ride USA has a special place in the heart and mind for many (not for me ) and are in some way more competitive then Europe players..

The differences says you can only play up to 3 players. I didn't know this and started a 4 player game. I guess I'll see what happens...
