This problem should have been fixed now by Thoun. :P

Another thing came to my mind: playing Switzerland in the same environment of USA totally destroys the meaningfulness of statistic. Train cars are less, routes are shorter, playstyle is radically different, statistics will become a total nonsense.

I honestly don't see the problem of "splitting the community" because when I want to play I usually queue for all maps (USA and Europe until now, but will do for every map probably), unless I want for some reason to play a specific map, in which case it doesn't really matter since even if maps are together I would only accept to play games with that specific map

The risk is splitting the community if we have too much different projects for Ticket to Ride. The maps are not really expansion but not standalone too, so it's an in-between that is hard to classify.
I play mostly Europe and then I saw Switzerland I thought it was going to either be stand alone or part of the Europe pack. Feels like Europe has more in common but I don't know,

Another thought is that if more standalone packs are added (like nordic countries) they could be together. So we have only three ticket to ride games. One for USA, one for Europe and one for the map packs so to speak.
I think this is a decent compromise. Have USA, Europe, All Others. Just from an ELO (and statistics) perspective, USA is the default map experts play, there is a set of players that concentrate on Europe, and then it falls off very quickly to the rest of the maps.

This is from my experience playing tens of thousands of games (yes that many) going back to the DoW Java applet, to the steam/app and now BGA. When the various maps were added hardly any top players dabbled in them. Not that top players should dictate how the split should be, but if you want to keep the community together, this idea should be fine - Top players playing mostly USA, and casual players can have fun with all the other maps.

Also if they are combined, there is no chance of ever having a Swiss Arena Season (USA map will always be chosen).

Not sure if many people go back and watch previous games, but you can't just look up game history and see a "Swiss" game. You have to click on each TTR USA game and see if it is Swiss.

If the plan is to add even more maps, I would deal with this now, not later.

Terra Mystica basically is split - with Age of Innovation, Terra Nova, Gaia Project...

I have created a suggestion to be voted about : #150342: "TTR Switzerland must not be with TTR USA but in another TTR maps group"
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=150342
To have BGA change for TTR Switzerland.

Another problem I have encountered today is tons of people joining and then leaving the game because I assume they are expecting a USA game, not a Swiss game. It doesn't help that when you are joining and clicking ok to start it shows the box cover of the USA map, not the Swiss box cover.

Hi DrakeStorm,
You can write that in my suggestion 150342: "TTR Switzerland must not be with TTR USA but in another TTR maps group" https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=150342
To have more force to request BGA changes for TTR Switzerland.

Yeah, but I want to say that Europe also has competitive players and experts. It's two diffrent maps with there own player groups. But I agree that USA has more competitive players because it's the oldest map.
I have played Switzerland alot since yesterday and I think it's so weird that my ticket to ride ELO gets effected and that my statistics in thr game is also effected because I don't care about the USA map.

So I think they need to do a split now. Because I think nordic countries come out soon here on BGA and also other maps. And as you said, Swiss is nev3r going to be arena and that sucks. And if it becomes arena it's going to be a riot here..

How do I set it to avoid playing this new game. It makes no sense to me. I tried to play and the rul3 aren’t the same.
I’d rather no play it, but I can’t know which game is loading until it loads. Is there a way to avoid. Hot that I can’t avoid it

ExaltedAngel wrote: 20 December 2024, 16:40 I agree Switzerland has more in common with Europe than with USA. Not geographically of course, I'm talking about gameplay. I could possibly see a Nordic+Switzerland section maybe, given the games are much more similar to each other than others (both 3p max, both use locos in a different ways, both have tunnels and force players to play in narrow routes, etc), but USA is totally another game.

Anyways I stand by my opinion that different maps really should have separate Elo, I hope something about it will be done honestly, or I'll never risk my rating in a game I barely know which shares it with another one I'm expert in.
You can of course play in friendly mode, but as we all agree, that's boring 😉 and also you want to show your skills and earn ELO on each map as they are after all separate games.

If anything, I agree that all the smaller maps and expansions could be placed in a 3rd TTR instance, and leave USA and Europe alone with their own expansions and options.
