In Arena games vary between Normal speed and Fast paced

A game in the Arena Real-time can be set to Normal speed (+0.24 per turn Max 2:12) or Fast paced (+0.15 per turn Max 1:45). This is not displayed so you have no real idea what your time limit is. I would think the area would be a fix time range of either Fast or Normal. So why does it vary and how can you tell what is set?

If a player has started a game in simple mode and then sees there are people available in Arena mode does his setting carry over to the Arena or does the Arena standard setting prevail?

It looks like the simple game setting are used which is incorrect IMHO.
