2 workers on an association spot

Post by gabbah goolah »

Let’s say you have all 4 workers hired and 2 of your workers are on the same action space, either from a recalled worker or from the special association card that allows you to hire a worker at 5.
Would you then be able to put your other 2 workers on that spot? I would assume not but the base rules do not address that as it was not previously possible to have exactly 2 workers on a spot. I don’t see the expansion rules addressing it either.

There's no absolute limit to the number of workers on a spot - just an extra cost in workers for performing that action an extra time.

Yes,but only with the Marine Worlds expansion extra shift ability. Performing the same action a second time would require two workers, leaving three on the spot. You could then use the extra shift ability to re-hire one of the workers, leaving two on the spot. You would then be able to use the two workers to perform the action a third time, leaving all four on the spot.Marine Worlds is in public Alpha right now.

Sorry but that's false. The glossary clearly explains you can't retake that action if you already have two workers on the spot. Think of this as the worker cost being number of workers on the spot + 1 so you would need 3 workers, which is not possible

That's confusing, then, because the rules say specifically that you can't perform the action again if you have three workers on the spot.So that's like advertising something clearly, and then burying an exception in the fine print.

Not sure to follow you, why would that be confusing ? You can't perform the action again if you have three workers on the spot (covered by base game), and you can't perform the action again if you have two workers on the spot (not possible by base game, covered by MW).

It is confusing, because by stipulating three workers, the rules clearly imply that it is ok with fewer than three workers. So if you could reduce the number of workers to two,you would expect to be allowed to take that action again by adding extra workers. The designers added a rule in the glossary to prevent that, where fewer people are likely to see it.I understand that they had to put the rule there if they really wanted to prevent that, but my question to them would be why were they determined to prevent that ? It is pretty tough to accomplish - you need all your workers out,and the re-hire card, and a third association action. So I can see absolutely no harm in allowing people to try for it if they really want to.Can you ?

Ok i understand now. Personnally i have always understood the rules as "you need one extra worker than the number of your worker already on the spot", which is a common game mechanic that you can found on other games, so i wasnt surprised by MW. That being said, if a new map would provide 5 workers and game designer would prevent using 3 workers when already 2 are on the spot, now I would be confused ^^
