Real-time or end-game scoring

Post by Mr_Hopkins »

Hi guys, which scoring system do you prefer? Real-time scoring or end-of-game scoring? Personally, I think end-of-game scoring is better because it feels closer to the experience of playing at a physical table. Additionally, estimating the score and deciding whether to end the game is, in my opinion, also a skillful element of the gameplay.

I strongly prefer the real time scoring; what I have seen on the site and forums seems to imply it is more popular. I have seen some posts here indicating most prefer real time scoring as well.

I have seen a few videos, including some of the top rated steam app players, who have to resort to using a spreadsheet to get the real time score. This is surely folly; if you can have the score why wouldn't you?

To each their own and if you prefer non live scoring that's fine you do you. To me it would be like playing on BGA and expecting to shuffle the cards manually with your mouse, click through the set up etc. .

Good arguments, and there’s no reason to be snarky about it ;) Besides, I might switch to real-time scoring myself since it has its own advantages. After all, I recently lost a game because of my decision to end the game. If I had waited a generetion I would have won. I had plenty of points in the hand and the strongest engine :/

Fair enough, I admit I was snarky and I hereby apologize; there was no need for the snarky -ness. To each their own, to those who love playing without real time scoring; I am not in your tribe but more power to you. :)

I much prefer real time scoring. The scores can be determined from the available information and seems unecessary to force people to have to keep doing the calculus over and over again or use a spreadsheet to track.
