LOVING the new Swiss board! I missed playing this board after the Days of Wonder edition stopped being supported.

I agree it needs to be separated from USA TTR. Very different play dynamics. Played a game with two people who did the typical draw draw draw method for the USA board and absolutely trashed them since that's not the best strategy with this board and I took the key routes LOL. Many people won't want to ruin their USA ELOs by playing Swiss

The risk is splitting the community if we have too much different projects for Ticket to Ride. The maps are not really expansion but not standalone too, so it's an in-between that is hard to classify.
Two player classic TtR is different than 3-, 4-, and 5- player games of the same, significantly different enough that it ought to have its own ELO and stats. It sort of has its own ELO because Arena has been exclusively two-player for as long as I can remember. But, mixing the stats between different numbers of players and 1912 and mega renders the stats pretty meaningless.

And that is so for every game where there is more than 1 option.

Doesn't seem that hard to classify based on your statement, "The maps are not really expansion."

Community splitting is not a manageable goal, in my opinion. At any one time, there is a fixed number of players on BGA. Each time a new game is released, some number of players may choose to advert some of their BGA attention from an existing title to the new one. This is uncontrollable and, in fact, is actually a feature of BGA, not a risk to be managed. Lumping Switzerland as an expansion into the USA game does not change the possibility that some players will spend less time playing USA map and will instead play the Switzerland map. All it does is create confusion regarding the elo system and remove the possibility for stand-alone Arena play.

I just want to post my support for splitting then as well. Not sure that would happen even once the decision has been made. I agree that ELO should be different. Also, Switzerland could only be in Arena if it was decided to replace USA. I agree that all maps should be separate.

Seems like basically everyone, from casual players to pros, agrees that would be better to split the maps. Additionally, everyone who mentioned it agrees that "splitting the community" isn't really a thing since most people will focus on just one map or queue for both anyways.
Is there a chance this will be done? Please :(

Btw when I create Switzerland games I keep getting matched with people who refuse the game, one even abandoned as soon as the game started because it wasn't the map they wanted to play

No. This is a case of selective sampling. You only see people requesting the change because people happy with the current status (or people who don't care) won't come to the forum and write.

This is how it was in the Java app on the Days of Wonder website. This is how it was on the cross platform Steam/Apple/Android App. Each map and each variant had itd own rankings because games are totally different.

The Swiss could as well be an expansion of the Europe Map.

Having different arenas, rankings encouraged people to play different maps. It won't split the community that much. There is an Arena for Tournay and Assyria, with 10 games running at a time on the whole platform. Swiss map won't do worse, would it? Are the other 976 games on the platform not more likely to split the community?

The luck swing is much higher in Mega for instance, crazier than a coin flip. By keeping it in Arena with the USA, you discourage players to actually play more Mega or 1910 because it'd ruin the USA Arena ranking.

You can also give visibility to the Swiss Map instead of burying as an expansion.

The Arena USA is already not looking amazing with more people on top than in Bronze Division and what looks like an inverted pyramid, the opposite of the Arena intent (just guessing, as I don't have the numbers). That would be nice to promote Ticket to Ride the way it deserves to be.

Thanks Sysyphus to promote to have for each TTR game a specific game in BGA. ;)

Since 2 weeks I have a lot of work to reply to a lot of new bugs created in BGA because the players think that the rules are the same between TTR USA and Switzerland.... :x
