Tiebreaker with the same number of discarded tiles

Hi, why, in case of a tie in points and the same number of discarded tiles, does one player still lose? Is ELO the deciding factor, the player with the higher ELO should win, so in case of a tie he loses? That makes no sense IMO. Maybe an additional deciding condition would be useful, e.g. thinking time?

That was a tie, no player won. There was some elo exchange, as the higher-elo player was expected to win. The elo variation would have been larger if the higher-elo player would have lost the game. It makes a whole lot of sense, because elo is not some kind of prize, but a measure of skill: in the event of a tie, both players' elo scores are adjusted so that they are more similar to each other.

Yes, it's about this game. It was a tournament game and as a result I was eliminated despite the draw. That's why I asked this question on what basis such a draw is decided.

In tournaments, a "winner" must be chosen. There are some posts saying that it's decided based on the account age, or it might be totally random.
