3-player Arena

Post by zephyrnx »

I see that Arena is 3-player this season (much to the dismay of most competitive players). The game is quite unbalanced with any config besides 2 player, symmetric. Is this change going to be reverted next season, or is there any way we can vote on the settings for next season? Thanks!

Yes. You can play a lot, become a guru and vote for next season.

Those games don't even have to be in arena.

On a side note, wasn't the symetric 2 player game a bit boring ? I felt like games looked a bit the same, but i'm rather bad at the game so the question is genuine.

Arena is meant to be for competitive play so to lower randomness as much as possible.
The way IAWW works is that it's quite rare to go green build (because of the very little cards that allow you to snowball and produce a lot of green) so one player generally goes yellow, the other one goes blue, or both go blue, or both yellow. Making 3p means that one player will go yellow, one will go blue and the third player will go either blue or yellow leaving the player doing the one colour by themself free reign and snowball while the other two doing the same colour will grief each other.

There's nothing boring about a 2p game because it's a constant ping pong game of draft and hate-draft. At 3p, there's way more randomness and can lead to kingmaking too.
