Unfair ELO adjustments after player expulsion

Post by soarlooser »

I have been dismayed to find myself in a game from which one player has been expelled and losing some of my ELO points. The present system declares that the remaining players have all won, apparently with the same score, since all are considered to have tied with each other. The higher rated remaining players lose points. I believe it would be more fair if this changed. Perhaps the rules for ELO adjustment could be 1. All remainging players tie. 2. All players get 40% of ELO points that would have been distributed had it finished nomally. 3. No player will lose ELO points.

It is disheartening to be in a major lead, close to the end of the game, one player gets expelled, and you, on the verge of winning, are the only one to lose ELO points.

What do you all think

This has been noted before and I thought that there had been a site update to prevent this from happening, but this is the second time since then that someone has reported this happening. So either I am remembering incorrectly that it was fixed, or it was fixed and these occurrences are bugs.

I think the game in question is https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=611924736
However, the poster didn't lose ELO at all. Instead, he gained 2.07.

Edit: In such scenarios, other players never lose ELO. For example - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=612747996

If you don't believe ufm found the correct table, link to the table where this happened.
