Part rant, part call to arms, I guess, but after reading that the most thumbed-up bug report, 'Add "Cancel all moves" button', is something that 'for now we don't plan to add', I have to wonder just what the state of this game is.
In my last rally, I deliberately abused known bugs to crash more favourably, getting distance I should not have been able to get to give me an advantage. On the very next round, my opponent also lost control, going over the same jump as I did, in the same gear as I did, and got a bug of their own to deal with, where they were forced to crash at the end of their turn, rather than from the jump, where the rules said.
He remarked "Odd. Should have crashed in 4." I replied "I don't even known whether to bother posting bug reports anymore."
Is that where we find ourselves these days, or is it just me?
There are issues dating back years.
There are issues that the board game designer has called out and can't understand why they haven't been changed.
There isn't just an issue with turn time leading players to lose tournaments because they ran out of it, but issues with anyone who has to retire from a rally being given 166665 additional minutes instead of 1 more than the slowest driver. A 1 minute deficit to the car ahead may well be overcome. A 115 day deficit is a little tricker to claw back over a stage or two...
Are we ok with that? Is that fine to just put up with? Because the more I see it and many other oddities happen again and again, the more I want to take such a retirement more literally, and just not play anymore Rallyman.
This can't be the kind of experience newcomers are welcomed into, can it? A functional game full of issues? A game that someone knowledgeable with its quirks ought to be at the table just to point out what may go wrong if you do such and such?
But I know basically nothing about the development of a game on BGA. I don't know how easy it is, I don't know how this all works under the hood. All I know is that this engine is spluttering, and if it konks out too often, we'll just find a new car to drive instead.
