How can I avoid certain players in Arena mode?

Post by Tünde »

Recently I play Arena a lot. And I'm forced to play with players, who have 400+ and 500+ ELO-points. That means they play only for winning the game. What it means? They not really care for their tickets. They only collect TONS of cards and build the longest routes (which need 6 cards), and only in some turns they suddenly win. Whatever I do. Many times - if they have any leftover cards  - they also block me just the sake of blocking.
It is so annoying! I really don't understand these players because:

1. They ruin other players' game
2. They steal my precious time. I play to be entertained, to feel good, to relax. And then come this guy and STEAL my time, because I don't feel good and I definitely can't relax. I literally have no time for this. It is not about playing a lovely game, it is just about collecting trophies.
3. I don't mind, if I lost, but I'd like to loose in a fair game. Yes, I know, the rules allow this kind of playing style, but it is so annoying
4. Seeing these poor guys win I feel sorry for them. I'm not joking. The poor thing log in BGA, doing nothing more than collecting cards, putting them and win. No thinking, no relaxing, just furiously doing the same thing all the time, forever and ever. It can be soooo booooring.    How the heck are they able to ENJOY the game?

So, because of this now I almost hate playing TTR in Arena mode, because I can't choose my partner. Is there any option to AVOID these 300-400-500 ELO points guys in Arena mode?

Don't play Arena. Play in friendly mode.

You've got two options:
a) Don't play in arena mode - you can always stick to "simple game" option
b) Downvote all the users that play just like that and you won't be matched with them anymore.

If you want to beat them: memorize all the base game tickets, always be prepared for your opponent to trigger the final round in the minimum number of remaining turns, start by blind drawing to 30+ cards unless your opponent does something besides blind draws, always start with a 6-route (ideally multiple) if no routes have been played, and study the game replays of the top players. If the strategies above are not fun or engaging for you, that is completely understandable and I suggest picking different game settings (expansions, Friendly mode).

Please respect the rules. BGA has a policy against bullying users. Insulting users just because they're playing for fun is not kind. This is meant to be a more positive community. Promoting cheating and attacking users goes against the spirit of that.

Your definition of fun is not the same as everyone else's definition of fun.

Or use the Simple Mode / Play Now option. It’s still competitive and can be real time or turn based. You can select the number of players per game (so not always the head-to-head two player), and restrict to ELOs around your own ability. You might still find people playing to the style you don’t prefer (and I don’t like that style either so I stopped playing TTR here a long time ago - plenty of other games to play).

Why do you even play arena omg
