"This species takes 1 Plant Food from the Food Bank before the Food Cards are revealed"

It's not clear if this means it can take food when there is 0 food before the food cards are revealed (using up one of the food items that will come from the food cards), or if it's just ignored if there's nothing in the pool before the food cards are revealed. Some other cards clearly state "if there is food" but this one doesn't. I didn't see anything in the rules to address this. Anyone know?

The Food Bank and the Watering Hole are two different things. (see pages 3 and 6 of the 2nd Ed. rules PDF) The Watering Hole is where food from food cards goes. So, yes, it feeds even if there is currently 0 food at the Watering Hole.
