There are a lot of ppl that put randomically Red Thumb slowing down the search for a match, already on bang there aren't that many matches, for me the red thumb can't last forever and it doesn't make sense that you can't at least send a message to the person who blocked you to clarify the matter .
If this continues there will be more and more second accounts, the red thumb should have a period of time and then disappear, there are people who give you the red thumb even for an error in 1000 games, there will be maybe 200 people on this game, it is obvious that it is not sustainable and counterproductive for everyone.
I understand putting this on people who troll but there should be other ways to block these people.
This is my opinion and I'm curious to know yours.
As far as I understand you lit up two negative effects caused by the red thumb function ("RT" futher): it blocks private chat and people create other account (multi-account users). I cannot say anything about these two effects because I did not meet them; I dont know anything about blocking and didnt test it; I dont know anybody who created another account because of RT.
Speaking from my experience, I can feel only one negative effect - the more RT I put on people the more time I need to wait for the table. Here I need to note that this observation exists on my feeling basis, I dont know how exactly BGA matchmaking works (thats why I write exactly "feel" word). At the same time I note that I cant remember a time when I met someone I blocked in my next games so I assume it works like that: the more people I put under RT the less people available for matchmaking with me. Moreover, since Im not the only who puts RT on people, the matchmaking mechanism has to create a table with people who all have no RTs on each other; for example: I might not put RT on "Alex" but he is under RT by "Mike" so I cannot play with "Mike" and "Alex" at the same table. Because of complexity the time of waiting for a match increases, and I can feel it (if it works like that).
As far as I remember, I have never or almost never put RT on people for "bad playing", "low skill", "wrong move" and similar reasons. There are two main reasons I put players under RT: people use private chat to give information about role, tell what cards they have or other information for hidden cooperation (I find unfair this type of behaviour and typically share received information in general chat so everybody can use it, then can go RT for that player) - thats first, the second one - player type in chat agressive, rude, humiliating, "Im-the-boss-commander-manner" and other similar type messages (which I find disrespectful to other player on a personality level and to the freedom of gaming choice to play at will of a player).
Telling the above, I would like to note that these reasons might be not really objective in terms of "everybody should do it". I always put RT with the option "its just for me".
The question here: should I change my approach? I dont think so. I have my own personal preferences based on what works for me in terms of having fun and enjoy the game. For example, I dont like rude people and I cannot enjoy the game when somebody is rude to others (or to me). From this point of view I completely like, if its correct to say like this, how RT works. I understand that RT works as "delete this person from the world", and I understand this is not the best solution, I understand that other person might have reason for those type of behaviours and so on, and I would be happy if I can stop having negative feelings and emotions seeing these types of behaviour - it would be cool to continue enjoy the game despite of those behaviours - unfortunately Im not the ideal human-machine and probably not high-intellectual person so some things triggers stuff that I dont like, that ruins my pleasure - and the pleasure and fun is the main reason why I play this game.
Another question I can see: can people change? From my experience, yes, they can. This is more interesting question because the answer I gave theoretically means that RT can be designed a littlebit different. How? It can be developed with the progression. What do I mean? Example:
a) I put RT on "Alex" - this is first RT on him from me so the matchmaking blocks this person for X period of time.
b) After X period is done, "Alex" is back to pool of players I can play with.
c) I put RT on "Alex" again - this is second time so now he will be blocked X2 period of time (double).
Do you get the idea? We can find this approach in many other internet communication channels, for example, some streamers use this kind of system. Basically its the system of "the more RT repeats the more punishment (block)".
Will this kind of system satisfy you?
