I can't go out - what am I missing...

Post by Thinkpad66 »

I just played my first game of Canasta - a two players game. I tried to go out several times, having completed two Canastas, which I have interpreted as the only prerequisite (?). However, the game kept on going until the deck was Exhausted. I am not ready to report it as an error, as I may well be missing something?

You didn't add jokers to melds until the end of the round. Is there any particular reason?
If you saw an error message or couldn't do so for some reason, you should have immediately reported it as a game bug via bug/suggestion system in detail.

Thanks for your quick response. I expected a notification if I had gotten a reply. I never got one, so I checked only now.

I think the game consisted of three rounds. I tried to finish each round several times without success - that is, I had no cards left - sometimes while discarding a card and sometimes while not discarding a card. Each time I had at least two Canastas.

You asked why I didn’t add any jokers until the end of the round. That might have been the case in ONE round (of several) and if so, the only reason I can think of is I have a habit of "playing the cards close to my chest" in real life Rum 500 (it might not be relevant to do so here). But does this matter for the option to go out? After having read the rules the only prerequisite for going out is to have at least two Canastas, as far as I can tell?

So, is there something more than two Canastas that needs to be accomplished before one can go out? I’d like to know before I participate in a new game, to avoid frustration 😊.

If not, then I can write a report if it happens again. Maybe take a screenshot as well.

I asked because you were able to go out by adding those two cards to any meld.
What I wanted to ask is, 'Were there something that prevented you from playing those Jokers?'

Unless you play a team game and ask your partner a question then they say no, there are no other restrictions.

Please do so. It is the best way to handle such issues.

Sure, now that I know how it works/should work I will post a potential recurrence as a potential bug.

Thanks,
Peder
