Why are the arena games two player for this?

I tried the arena mode for this game and it straight up says that this game is not recommended for two players.

I don't see a good reason to take that note seriously, BGA doesn't know what the best way to play the game is. The majority of the time 2 player is the best method, regardless of what BGA says about it. 2 player just has too many natural advantages over other player counts that it takes some serious design factors to overcome it.

I played a bit of Sushi go 4 player. I just played my first Arena game and wow! I think 2 player is really the most interesting.

Perhaps bga is going by the polling at bgg, according to which a majority of the community have responded "Not Recommended" to playing with 2 players.

2 player just has too many natural advantages over other player counts that it takes some serious design factors to overcome it.

Ironic, given that the game as designed has variant rules in order to make it more suitable for 2 players.

Because Arena is competitive and 2player is more like a game of chefs and bluff.

While 3 or 4 players is more of a casual game where luck and how other players pick the wrong cards impacts your game greatly.
