How does BGA know when the Service is not working right

Post by JoysJoy »

It has become practically in every day many times a day occurrence that the website does not work right. I can't comprehend why it went from being pretty decent to really bad lately?

Today I endlessly get frozen with my moves and I'm repeatedly told "please wait a move is already in progress". Clearly something is very wrong with BGA because it's not happening with any other website.

How does BGA find out when the service isn't working? There's no way to know when they have figured it out and are actively trying to fix it. There seems to be no way to notify them to please get on this and fix it.

In theory the status page (https://boardgamearena.com/serverstatus ... ves_played) would show outages
Our philosophy is to be transparent on service outages, by explaining why it happens, what has been impacted (and how long), and what we did to make sure it won't happen again. Explaining all of this is the goal of this page.
However I'm not sure this is ever updated. It would be great if they could be more transparent about issues and the causes.
How does BGA find out when the service isn't working?
It's very common for services to have alarms, alerts or other monitoring to detect issues. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't in place at BGA. The support page is probably the best place to raise issues but I suspect this is hosted on the same servers so if BGA is down you can't really get in touch.

The last time I remember it becoming a major issue it was because demand for the service had risen sharply.

This happened to me too, although I caught it before the time limit expired . I was waiting for the other player and I didn't know it was my turn.
