How does the "first game" extra time work?

Post by GolfBlogger »

I'm curious about the "This is my first game so my turn time is doubled" thing. I have now played multiple games with players who have the "first game extra time" designation, but who have rankings that suggest otherwise. One had a ranking over 100.

I don't think I understand the ranking-first game thing. Can someone explain?

Do you play turn based games?

It's possible to start a turn based game as a beginner with 0 ELO and in the meantime complete a few real-time ones and gain ELO, but in the first game you would still be a 'first game extra-time' player.
Or starting multiple turn based games and finishing some of them quicker will have the same effect.

Happened to me a couple of times :)

I have wondered myself what the time doubled for the first time means. I'm interested to hear that explained it some point with this thread.

And I have played people with over 200 ELO that are called first time players. They should drop the Verbiage if nothing else when that happens. If the system can keep up with ELO to change it on your screen every day they could keep up with whether or not you're a brand new player

Seems broken. Starting with a first time player, and two days later they're in the hundreds. How many games would one need to play - and win -- in two days to get there?

It depends on the game, sometimes one or two.

My question about this is different: Sometimes I see that text in a player panel on a turn based game, but they seem to get the same amount on their clock as everyone else. So what does it mean, to say their time is doubled, when the have the same 24h or 36 as everyone else?

I've wondered this too. Honestly, doubling turn time in a turn-based game seems like insanity (from 1 move per 2 days to 1 move per 4 days??) so maybe it only applies to real-time games?

Haven't checked, but I'd guess that the time bank is the same and you get twice as much time back per completed move?

The time bank was the same every time I checked. Maybe the time per turn is doubled.

I've seen 'first time' appear with players with Elos over 200. I think in some games certain settings are considered distinct and therefore 'first time' even if a player has player the game quite a bit.
