Posturing 3 when reaching max rep?

I've played AN extensively for over a year both on BGA and IRL and that includes Marine Worlds. Now, I played a game where I got to choose either appeal or Posturing 3 for exceeding max reputation - I've never before experienced this. What's that all about?

With Marine Worlds, you add a random bonus token at then end of the reputation track and you either choose it or the appeal. You got one of the newer ones that the expansion adds.

When i first played Marine Worlds irl I did not see it either in the rules so i missed it too, but BGA is never wrong !

Can't believe we missed that, we've played it sooo many times. We also apparently got the altered Sponsor card wrong that grants 3 money extra, we thought it was only when you break in but now that I played it on BGA it grants 3 money everytime you get money from a sponsor card too! Makes it heaps better!

That sponsor card triggers when you get money from anywhere during that sponsor action.
So if you play a sponsor that lets you place a special building, and you place that on a money bonus space or you trigger hyrdologist/geologist you also get the extra money. It's really bonkers how easy it is to get extra money from it.
