Can we Have Option for Block/No Blocking Games for People Who Hate SABOTAGE Players?

I just created a public group for people (like me!) who would like to just play friendly, no sabotage games of Ticket to Ride (in all its variations). It’s called “Friendly Ticket to Ride: No Sabotage”. Please join if you also prefer to play games without blocking for the sake of sabotaging another player!

For me personally, I’d prefer to find other players who agree not to engage in blocking for its own sake. But other than only playing with friends, I don’t know logistically how it would work.

You would have to either create or join a group dedicated to playing the game in this non-standard way and then create tables limited to members of tha group only.

The same way any variation where people want to play a game differently to how the rules work.

Red Thumb should do it, not sure how that impacts Arena games, but you should be playing by the official game rules in Arena anyway rather than expecting a house rule to be in effect.

And note that red thumbs blocks the player for every game, not just TTR. That said, you're free to block anyone for any reason, even if you just don't like their avatar or username (or flag, or hometown...)

I just had a miserable game experience (https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=306478815) with a player who blocked just for the sake of blocking. - Not because they had a genuine need for the track. At one point red made a circle around my track, cutting off my final area of track in all directions! - Just "to get their jollies" (their words).

IRL it's generally agreed upon that this is a jerk move, as most people prefer to win by getting longer trains and more tickets completed. Blocking someone and sabotaging their entire hour of play and all the long effort they put into collecting the necessary train cards, just because you anticipate their direction, is something that CAN be done. Sure. But it's mean and a lot of us don't enjoy playing with people who play that way!

If there's any way of having blocking as an option for those who play aggressive games and also games where everyone agrees to just mind their own tracks and only block when they fairly need a track to reach a destination or longer train, that would be great! Otherwise, I may just wait for Europe and stations to hit BGA! It's hard enough playing 4 players without stations to escape an accidental block when we all need the same tracks.

But having players blocking people on purpose just kills all the fun as far as I'm concerned. Amen I agree.

Having some of the most toxic members of the community forced into a group seems like a recipe for disaster. The ability for them to get together is dubious enough, but even if that managed to happen the accusations of cheating and foul play certainly won't do them any favors either.

Yes. I love you post. If people block I understand. But they shouldn't because it just doesn't have any goodness to it.
