Red thumbs

I understand that red thumbs are meant to be flexible but it’s really annoying to get red thumbed for no apparent reason, at least not one that I can tell. I am not going to name anyone but I will explain the situation. I wanted to join someone’s table, and I played and chatted with them before with no issues. I enjoyed playing with them, although maybe they didn’t enjoy playing with me, but I didn’t get this sense because our interactions were good. Then they went AFK leaving the table open without responding so I messaged them asking what was happening. I also sent them a friend request. I also tried sending several more messages to them in the next two days and attempted to join their tables but they don’t want to play with me, without explaining why. Now they have red thumbed me and I can’t even message them. I feel really bad because I didn’t violate any rules or even come close to violating them, yet they blocked me. And I don’t even understand why. I’ve always been a polite player who likes this website and not doing anything abusive.

I don’t know how to process this situation to be honest. Any advice?

I get that. It's discouraging. I gave someone a thumbs up, only to later find out that this same player gave me a red thumb. I have not given anyone a red thumb the entire time I've played here. I considered reaching out and opted not to. I think sometimes it's might be more about them than about you if you are trying to be friendly.

Maybe they don't like polite players. Maybe the didn't like your game style. Maybe they're just trying to find noob players and farm them. Maybe they don't want to play with strangers. Maybe they don't know what a red thumb means...

It's not a judgement on you. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong. Just ignore it and move on.

Yeah and you can’t message someone who you red thumbed or red thumbed you anyway.

As in you write a note to yourself on someone's profile to say that they have a particular play style? Maybe it's because you're not premium that you're joining more tables than creating, but I mostly create games I want to play (and mostly turn-based), so I don't necessarily know when someone joins my table to check - I would never see a note I put on someone's profile. Additionally you can't check that kind of thing in Arena play (although I probably wouldn't care that much if they removed the affect of red thumbs from Arena play as they mentioned considering a while back). I don't red thumb for play style often, but occasionally I find myself absolutely not enjoying a game because someone is playing in a way that completely distracts me. I've seen people make non-sensical moves (which then cause them to lose), or play completely aggressively (in a game where that level of aggression is not needed, and doesn't result in them winning either, just leaves me feeling frustrated). I haven't quite got to this point, but I've considered red thumbing some very high ranking players because playing against them is like we're playing two different games. I can't imagine that kind of play is fun for them either (very probably, they see me as making non-sensical moves that cause me to lose). If playing against someone means I don't enjoy the game, why should I continue to play with them? I know people IRL who won't play with certain friends - one lady who won't play 2p with her husband because she finds it too cutthroat, another man who won't play 2p with his brother for the same reason. These people like their opponents, but don't enjoy the games (and they do play at other play counts with them, so it's not quite the same).

I do sometimes wish they'd implemented red thumb decay, where after say 6 months, the red thumb wears off and you have the option to meet that person again (perhaps except where a person has received a high number of red thumbs from all their opponents combined, which likely indicates a problem player), see if anything has changed. Maybe a person was having a bad day on the day they played (though I would happily accept an early-to-mid-game abandon, if someone offered me a genuine reason).

As others have said don't bother yourself about it, its really not important. But you might want to think, if they had some legitimate reason they couldn't respond that maybe they might have found that level of messaging and attempts to communicate a bit unsettling.

But, its also possible they were just being weird. I had a player interact very weirdly recently. They stopped playing actively half way through the game (I had warned them about the length when they joined). Then they said they were stuck in the game. I explained how to exit the game. They then said I was blocking them from quitting then carried on playing passively (just clicking to say they had finished their turn) for another week, and then quit. It was all very weird, but sometimes people are, just ignore it.
