Option for Automatically Playing Cards if Only One is Playable

Post by theunknownperson »

Can there be an option to automatically playing cards if only one card is playable in your hand (like having a singleton of the suit of the trick, only one non-penalty card on the first trick, only having one non-heart card in your hand when hearts have not been broken yet and you’re on lead). That would make playing much quicker.

sounds bad. Opponents will be able to learn something by how fast you play. If you are 2nd and before you had a chance to look at the card, you played a card, others will learn that you are now void

Here's a compromise option that might address sicp's concern. Instead of making it autoplay if only one option is possible, perhaps allow a player to preselect the card they want to play before it's their turn. So it would let you select the card to play because it's your only card in that suit, OR because it's the card that strategically you know you're going to play regardless of what the intervening players might play. Since that's a possibility, opponents couldn't read as much into it, especially since they wouldn't know how many previous cards had been played before you made that decision.

It's not as hands off as the autoplay option is, but it would make gameplay more efficient potentially. This would be particularly useful in asynchronous games, but even in live games it could speed play.

I am able to pre-select the card I wish to play, but I elect not to do it, for the same reasons already mentioned in this thread. I do not want to give information by indicating that it is either my last card of the quit or that I have no decision to make.
