Forest Shuffle: Time to go all in with both expansions!

Post by reikja »

Dear players,

After launching the second expansion, Forest Shuffle: Woodland Edge, our studio received many requests to mix both expansions here on BGA. And despite the objections of our editorial team - we heard you loud and clear. So here we go:

Starting with this week, you can choose to play Forest Shuffle with the Forest Shuffle: Alpine expansion, Forest Shuffle: Woodland Edge expansion – or both. Have fun shuffling them all in.

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND: Following the official rules, the system automatically removes a certain number of cards during set up, depending on player count:

So if you are starting a game for 2 players, a total of
90 cards will be removed from the deck.

With 3 players, there are a total of
60 cards that are NOT available for this game.

With a significant amount of cards discarded during set up, chances are high, players will miss out on certain colours to gain bonuses or bonus actions. We know you are probably not afraid of this, so off you go: Explore Forest Shuffle in its full glory!

Thanks for the love and dedication Forest Shuffle gets on this platform!
And thanks to developer @firgon for making this possible.

I advocated for this a while ago and I'll be the first to admit I was wrong :D
Despite my hopes it doesn't help the Woodland Edges cards to shine at all, and the moutain stuff is also too diluted.

From the publisher's point of view, I'm not going to say: I told you so.. :)

Our editorial team knows their job. You made a wish, now enjoy the fun. We're not forcing anyone here to play with both expansions.

Have fun exploring all the options available.

This is really puzzling, because while on BGA sure we can try both expansions and then choose to play with only one, in the real game it would be a huge pain to try to separate the expansions after you've shuffled them in. If the game designers really feel that these expansions don't work well together, why would they (you?) ever make these expansions in the first place? Should they each have big warnings on the box, "don't buy this if you already have the other expansion"? I really don't understand this.

It's not about NOT allowing: The expansions were specifically designed to go with the base game and fit in seamlessly.
IRL, we expect you to mix them all in and you are totally free to apply #house_rules on how many cards you want to keep in your deck. :)

Truth is, on BGA, 2player is your preferred set up. And as we are playing by the rules, this means constantly discarding 90 cards from the game.
No house rules on BGA to keep the balance for players preparing for Forest Shuffle tournaments.
