TM is for Effective Altruists

Post by RoyalRook »

You are most optimal when helping others, instead of accumulate the most wealth for yourself, you should maximize your expected value making Mars a more livable planet.

Hence the game should always be competed with 3+ players in the arena setting, because best players can still maximize their expected value in the worst/unluckiest conditions over time by securing a higher placing in each game, which would not be reflected in 2p matches. King making is fine bc it affects everyone the same over larger sample of games. Everything is good if the game is not played in 2p. The only variants are your interaction with other players in the game. If you are chatty stay chatty, if you are silent be silent, if you say glhf do it for every game to preserve the bell curve by allowing your data reverse to the means.

TM therefore can only be competed at the highest level in higher player counts. Let's maximize our expected values by sharing our wealth to ensure greatest return in the shortest time(gen).

TM is not a cooperative game since only one corporation can win, not two. Therefore, kingmaking undermines the game in every aspect, providing a bad experience for the affected player. It's fine that you see it as a challenge, but let’s see how you feel about it when it happens to you frequently.

I strongly disagree. In a game of 2 weaker players against a strong player, either of the weak players is more likely to target the strong player, even with ridiculous cards like Hackers and Cloud Seeding.

3 player is fine if played by 3 people with the same skill level. Otherwise, it’s a nightmare. And there are quite a few cards that are unplayable in 3 player which can sometimes be played in 2 player.

The risk premium is the same for all participants, you just have to make sure you don’t come in last when you are in a jam. That’s why 3p arena is better. It record your daring escapes. In 2p you are just dead with nothing to play for besides conceding.
There are far more way to escape a bad situation in 3p than 2p via tempo and awards.
Many times you can count on helps, that far outweighs king makers.
