There is a subset of players (not exclusively with Ark Nova) who use time intimidation as a strategy. Constantly sending messages, asking to play faster when you are well within your thinking time. I always report these players. Don't know if that's an accepted strategy but I find it unsavory to have the constant pop-up messages from players who are usually playing slower than me.

Just select the Turtle setting or play turned based. If your turns are going over 25 mins per game, you need to select a slower setting than "fastest."

But if "fastest" gives you 59 seconds per turn, you're allowed to use 59 seconds per turn (but not 60, once you use up all your time bank).

Ark nova really need a blitz or bullet settings, because top players (who play 30’ game when they play each other) are really frustrated playing against players who spend twice their time, even if it in their rights. It creates this toxic settings where some even promotes harassing/shaming/red thumbing players who indeed just play according to their time setting, even if it is in the highest side of the allotted time in fast.
I also understand the frustrations of elite players, because arena competition is partly also decided by the number of games they can play, and it is also a strain for their focus to play much slower opponents.

If BGA would give them a proper time setting (around 40% shorter than fast I think), the experience would be a lot better both for them and for those that still want a shorter game but still needs to think a bit when playing a 2 determinations turn.

Thanks.
Since no one seems to want to answer your question, I do not believe there is a way for quick expulsion. However, the 20 second timer does not reset between the different times you go over the timer. What may have happened is that the other player tried to expel you multiple times, and reached the 20 second limit over multiple attempts.

If a player selects the "Collectively Abandon game" option hits it and has a positive time and the other player has a negative balance, the game instantly ends and it neutralizes the game (like it never happened). Good for the player whom didn't run out of time if they are in a losing position and are not wanting to watch the other player take their time to "Beat" them. It's just another way to game the system, although I just recently learned of this option and not yet utilized it.

It's incomprehensable to me how people can play this game well with only 60s per turn maximum...let alone 30-40 seconds... In that case the game is more like a speedrun. Kudos to them tho for apparently knowing what to do and what the optimal move is every single time! Crazy

We have regularly done 4 player in person games in 2 hours flat.

Some people just naturally play faster at some games.

If I'd seen you time out 30%of your games, I'd expel you too.
If you can't meet them, choose slower game settings.

I already did! I play only turn-based and '3 turns per day' now. Usually I will easily do 20-40 turns a day, but I want to have the possibility to (close to) not do a turn at all during a day if life demands it! This weekend for example, I was very busy and hardly did anything on BGA on Saturday, but finished of my running games with 20+ turns in the last hour or so. This seems to work and hardly any games will.exceed time now.

Regarding (live) play style...to each their own I guess! If I play a live game with 4 people, I still like to have some time to think about the game and the moves I do, to properly plan and straregize. Some people may like to be rushed all the time, but when I find myself having to do turns just 'to get them over with' due to time, the fun quickly goes...

These types of players are absolutely the worst and should be punished by the website as a form of harassment. If you are playing within your time, you don't deserve to be pestered by angry people who want you to play faster. If the person consistently goes down to the wire or over time then that's one thing, but I've had people bug me about time even when I have plenty left on the clock (1-3+ minutes), have never gone into the red and even if it's clear that I'm a new player and still learning the game. JUST THE WORST.
