Doubling cube automatic unlock

Post by movingtheriver »

The cube lock function is helpful for speeding up async games where there is no reason to double. I've found many players don't know about this feature.

One thing I wonder about, though, is the behaviour of the automatic unlock. The cube stays locked for several turns sometimes. But sometimes it automatically turns off and allows the player to choose whether or not to double. This seems like it could be helpful for those times when a game status changes from a No Double to a Double. The problem is that I haven't seen any clear rules about when the lock is automatically removed. As a result, I don't use the lock in any situation where a game could change from No Double to Double, because I have no way to reliably know if the lock will turn off when I would want to double.

Is there a clear description of this automatic lock off behaviour anywhere?

Haven't seen any documentation, but it seems to me that it unlocks the next time you can move a checker.
