Re: Time
What do you mean Quit/Leave doesn't work properly?
As far as I know BGA is strongly against quitting or leaving games before they're finished. Even if the game is over for you, there are other people for whom the rest of the play may be competitive and someone quitting/leaving before the end ruins that experience. Which is why BGA strongly discourages it.
Sure it could be a bit better about resignation in two-player games, but something like Catan needs everyone to stay the distance.

Re: Time
I think he was offended that people expelled players because their time became negative, even if the latter players were in full action. they prefer to expel an opponent rather than see him finish/win the game
there are no negative consequences to expelling a player, on the contrary it means finishing 1st with all the others, a small gain in ELO point and no loss of karma, while the one who took too long to do his actions this finds himself doubly punished. it's a kind of meta game, which seems ethically very questionable to me.
why not impose a sanction on the person who validates the action of expelling an “inactive” player?

Re: Time
Sometimes I think expelling a player should take at least a second person to confirm unless the player is overtime by X time. It would prevent the times when someone gets expelled just as they hit the minimum overtime.owly S wrote: ↑04 February 2025, 20:58 I think he was offended that people expelled players because their time became negative, even if the latter players were in full action. they prefer to expel an opponent rather than see him finish/win the game

Re: Time
Hello players,
It's interesting to see this topic, because i started to join the community recently and tried to play some Catans game.
I generally use more time for some specific turns or positionning start or because several trades are purposed in one specific turn.
And with just a few games, i rapidly realized something.
In 3 games, where i was leading or a bit above, i suddendly got a message telling me that "if i don't play faster i will be expelled from an other player who just asked for it."
This situation intrigued me for many reasons, which follow as below :
1. I was just taking a bit more time for 1 or 2 turns in a critical moment, but nothing extraordinary (max 20 sec more).
2. I was waiting for trades exchanges and the answers were super long or non-existant sometimes.
3. I wasn't the only one doing that (sometimes 3 players out of 4 in the same game), and i didn't tried to expell or ask for one's expulsion.
4. If it happened that i took some time, it seems that the game immediately shut down heavily your next turns' timer... So you're more likely to go even more under the time limit again and again with such short timer.
5. I rarely got this reaction in a game i was also active but clearly behind.
Now, i will point out the problems i've seen for each point above :
1. We have no idea how the use of extended timer work. Maybe you have some related topic from the devs on that ?
I found it frankly rude to be under pressure or expelled from a game where you're giving a whole 1 hour time to be potentially expelled from just 1 person any time. It pushes you to play faster maybe, but it doesn't benefits the quality neither of the game, of the players' interactions, and of the general mood into the game. All of that for some few seconds ! I would have understood if someone got that for abusive uses, but wasn't the case.
2. Players afk behind screen penalize others when trading is on, by non replying to it.
We can easily think that some players with bad intentions, could deliberately not reply, in order to make your turn longer than others, in the hope of expelling you (especially if you're ahead of them), + they have nothing to loose doing that, if we see how BGA rules work. All beneficial to loosers here
3. And still was the only one who got some requests against me... So why me and not others ? I was active, not letting the time run for no reason.
Only reason : I was ahead !
Plus, why the person who asked for my expulsion didn't asked for others ?
Only reason : Those players weren't a threat for them !
4. I don't know the calculations the game made to reduce your next timers. If someone knows, be my guest !
But this action, just provide even more power for people to expulse you unfairly !
Being under a timer of 2/3 min, by a 20 sec merge, is a little thing, ok, but not the end of the world, especially if the player is active.
But then getting several turns with just 30 sec or less, you start to feel the pain. Not only you play under serious time pressure (bye bye trades !), but also it gaves the one who would like to expulse you even more opportunities to achieve his goal !
5. This last point is just there to spot the truth !
Conclusion :
GBA should rethink this system, or have at least more clarifications around it :
- If a player receive a preventive message for his future expulsion, what is the avalaible room for maneuver he still has to rectify things without being expelled ? Need devs notes or calculations here i guess !
- Is there some kind of penality towards people who abuse the system in order to balance such penalties ? (Especially when oriented against leading players of their games).
- Could we establish a more fair way to ask for expulsion like a question who ask the one asking for it the main reasons ?
Examples with a list to check for the person who makes the report :
- The player did that several turns.
- The player refuse to communiate.
- The player do nothing special (time pass and no play at all).
- You tried to reach the player using the chat and he ignored you or refused to pay attention to his timer.
etc.
I'm interested to get any communication with a GBA's official member on this topic. I'm sure he could help a lot for this game, and other games too.
If needed, i may contribute to that for the the game, the community, and the GBA site.

I only see one game that you lost on time. In this game (a 3 player game) you were the only player that went over time. Thus you were the only player that could be kicked out of the game.Kuuchi wrote: ↑03 March 2025, 21:36 Hello players,

You played with the fastest time setting possible. This is 44 seconds per turn (including all trades!). As you probably know you have a time bank of max 3:00 minutes (which allows you to make some slower moves) but you only get 44 seconds added back per turn.
44 seconds is not much time if you play Cities and Knights expansion (as you did). If you choose such a time settings you have to play extremely fast - but you yourself chose to do so. If you choose this time setting then your opponents have every right to expect you to play superfast!
If you are not willing or able to do so then you might be kicked out of the game - and it is not the fault of your opponents.
Summary: Simply choose normal or slow time setting and enjoy those games. Don't play the fast time setting! No need to change anything here...

If you read my message again you will realize that i've never said i was expelled, but that i would be expelled if i don't play faster, informed by a system message that a player asked for it, for just few seconds btw.
There is only one game where i expelled myself voluntarely : a 3 players game, i've never wanted to play at 3 neither imagined that the game would select a 3 player game for me. Right after, before starting any game, i've searched for all options and informations for this to never happen again !
Thanks for the information for the time bank, i didn't knew about that !
One question though : "When a player use some of his time bank, does the game reduce his timer for his next turns to equilibrate that ??"
I don't play C§K, it was the 3 player game i just mentionned above.
Ofc opponents can expect you to play fast, in a fast game... What an understatement !
But you can globally play fast, and have 1 2 turns where you get a bit (some seconds) over time.
And some players make profit on that during games, and this is a problem.
Moreover my global statement apply on any time mode you've selected, so we're out of subject here.
No need to reply if it's not related to the points i've mentionned.
I'm searching for ideas or information in order to prevent some kind of system abuse, that i didn't met yet on other games or platforms.
Any way of abusing the system, should be punished or prevented in any game.
Let's try to do something together to improve the game and its sanity by preventing such things !
Re: Time
The way time works is:
You'll start with the max amount of time you are allowed for the game based on the time settings the table was setup under. When it is your turn and playing hours are active, your time will count down until you complete your turn. You will then get a set amount of time added back to your clock again depending on the time settings the table was setup under; however, you will never go higher than the max amount of time allowed. Also, tournament games don't get time added to their clock.
For example (using random numbers not based on any table time setting):
Say you start the game with 5min. Your first turn you use 30s of time leaving your clock at 4min 30s. This table happens to grant 45s back; therefore, you will have 5min once again for turn 2. On turn 2, you end up using 5min and 30s of your time which leaves your clock at -30s. The table continues to add 45s back, so for your third turn you will have 15s.
