Remove the bonus in arena

Post by legrandc »

Hello, what do you think about the idea of removing the bonus in arena ?

Since they are only 3 games, it offen makes the first two irrelevant . I think it would make more sense for the player who wins the most out of the three to be considered the winner.
I get that the idea might be to make the harder problems count more, but in this case, they are all at the same level of difficulty but the bonuses are so different.

I believe it would make things a bit more fair and less random between games

yessss please, look at this game https://boardgamearena.com/7/gammelogic?table=642637116

I beat them on puzzle 1 with 2.64x less time, on puzzle 2 with 2.79x less time, then my brain lagged on puzzle and they beat me on puzzle 3 but only with 1.41x my time (about 70% my time) , so not a big difference, but I somehow still lose (2 and 3 were both hard level)??

I dominated puzzle 1 and 2 so hard and they beat me on puzzle 3 by just a little.

I even got less total time so if there was a tiebraker, I would still have won.
I don't know if tiebreaker using total time is the best method though, since If I used like 5 more seconds on puzzle 3, I would have got more total time and lost it, despite still clearly winning the game I think beating someone like 6s to 20s is a far better performance than like 100s to 120s, but not the tiebraker

While the first arena format is automatic based on the recommended game setup, future arena formats are based on votes by the Game Gurus designated by BGA, a stupid system where anyone who has played a few arena games can vote and the most popular proposal wins, which leads to arena players deciding which format fits them (not the competition) their best. Right now the most highly voted proposal is 6 rounds of hard-extreme no bonus, which is so dumb since 6 rounds of extreme means each game is going to be at least a minute of downtime waiting. Goes to show how awful democracy is.

Oh will also make it much less beginner friendly, I'm afraid the arena will lose a lot of its player base and that it will bé so hard to find a game, like in some other games

Wrong. Anyone who has played many games (enough to be among the 100 players with most games), Arena or not, during the 30 days prior to the voting.

Sure, players who have not played any Arena game can vote. Do you suggest that only those who play Arena can vote? That'd be even worse.

Please note that you don't need to play Arena if you don't like the format.

Proposition is normal extreme not hard extreme. I mean easy is about clicking fast.... and hard is not very hard. If we have 6 puzzles instead of 3 I will probably play turn based. You can have multiple at the same time and in this game there is no "context" or gameplan so i dont think it makes a big difference with real time and it will optimize your game time so you are not actively waiting for the opponent to finish.

Yes, bully away all the good players so players like the current "champion" can remake sockpuppet accounts until they conquer the leaderboard.
