Duplicate tichu

Post by threeBarrelJr »

Our live group has always wanted to have a duplicate tichu, similar to duplicate bridge.

Essentially, each team would get a hand and your score is based on how well you score relative to other teams that got the same hand before.

Some hands are pretty clearly in favor of one team, however the "defenders" in that hand might be doing well by capturing 60 card points for 140-60 vs most teams going down 170-30 showing they made the best of a losing situation.

Does the back end of BGA realistically support this if coded?

This is currently infeasible for three reasons:

- Unlike duplicate Bridge, 'duplicate Tichu' does not have a strictly defined and managed rule set.
- To implement a house rule, it must be approved by the publisher in advance.
- Sites hosting duplicate Bridge pre-generates tons of hand seeds and assigns them to each hand, then compare all partnerships used the same hand seed.
This naturally requires a special randomizer AND a separate rating system. The current BGA framework can do neither of these.

can't help but laugh at these suggestions.. not that they would not make sense.. but because it's like throwing pearls into a pig sty.. i mean, 90% of players on this site have no clue how to play the game.. they may know the rules, right, but will hesitate no time to
- eagerly play towards eating phoenix points unnecessarily..
- eat phoenix points, when just passing till the end secures the win in the game, and playing over an opponent means not..
- ending on AAAKph with dragon out (or similar unbeatable combo) when there is a sea of options to play bomb-safe and not give a free lead to opposition
- the list could go on and on and on..
it's just so futile.. these players have different worries than getting away with minimum damage on the super one-sided rounds..
