Cheating in Daily Challenge

Post by YoannLevet »

Do you think there is cheating in the Daily Challenge?
Honestly, I don't think so because the scores seem realistic.

But if there were, I think there would be two types of cheating:

Having a second BGA account and noting down the solutions.
Developing a bot that analyzes the levels and plays them extremely fast.
The second option would be impossible to counter. But aside from doing it for fun, I don't see the point, and I think it would be a lot of effort for very little gain.

I have a fun idea that could add some variety to the Daily Challenge and help detect cheaters using the first method:
One day a week, on Wednesday for example, the puzzles in the Daily Challenge wouldn't always be the same. I could make sure they have roughly the same average completion time, but it would still be slightly unfair.

Do you think this is a good idea?

The daily challenges are very easy. Having a bot to solve them would probably be slower than humans to be honest considering inputting them is the hard part. And if the bot is capable of playing in the solution without having the input done by the human who is cheating then I think we would have to pack up and go home because no one will be able to beat that.

I've said many times to my opponents who had reactions to my fast solves. While 5 second solves can be impressive, most of the 5 seconds are from clicking in the solution where as if I could type in the solution with my keyboard my solve time would be closer to the actual time solved in my head of 2 seconds. I really wish keyboard input was a thing but I also think it would make cheating potentially a lot easier (but I have no idea if this is the case or if bots will be able to skip both bottlenecks anyways).
