Re: Google Chrome and Firefox Extension

Post by Tof63 »

I have just released version 1.11.9, which contains fixes for the dark mode for the following games :
- Welcome to the moon
- Toy Battle
- Piratas
- Mia
- Sneferu

This version contains also the following new features and fixes:
- new parameter to prevent the title from changing in browser tabs (rotating character) when you're waiting at a table
- fix game log length in floating window
- filter tables in "Friends tables" tab to not display tables you can't join if you're not in the right group

I was wondering if there are any plans to make the add-on available for Firefox on Android. So that I can also use it on my tablet while traveling. Other dark mode add-ons are not as compatible with various games.

I understand that porting an add-on to mobile may come with challenges, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether this might be feasible in the future. Thanks

Wow, thank you for taking care of the rotating triangle! Can't wait to try it once it hits Google store.

Thanks, works like a charm.

Though I discovered BGA treats my tablet like a phone with Firefox Mobile, while under Kiwi / Chrome it's detected correctly as a tablet. So also started adjusting the user agent string  Would have never noticed without trying Kiwi.

I like Kiwi Browser, it's really not bad!
I've found a few minor glitches with the Android version of the extension, especially in the display of the settings tab on the extension "popup". Some texts are displayed with a different font size, and the interface is displayed small with a big empty space around it.
I'll try to improve this in a future version ...

Tof63, thanks again for your excellent work! I have one more idea, which is to fix these two BGA buttons:

1) The table button in the top menu (DIV class "bga-tables-icon") - https://snipboard.io/5tFMSO.jpg. Its behavior is wildly inconsistent. E.g. if there are no games waiting it opens the same side panel as if I clicked on my avatar that is right next to it. This makes no sense and is redundant since I can just click my avatar to do the same thing. But if there are multiple tables waiting it gets even weirder, because then the button takes me to a "random" table. This is very bad usability-wise.

2) The red button on pages with game in progress (class="bgabutton_red"). Depending if there are tables waiting it looks like this: https://snipboard.io/EQXmW6.jpg or like this: https://snipboard.io/uNCXyB.jpg. The behavior is again very inconsistent. If there are multiple games waiting it will take me to a "random" one, but if no tables are waiting it takes me to this page: https://boardgamearena.com/gameinprogress.

It would awesome if both of those buttons, no matter if games are waiting or not, always linked here - https://boardgamearena.com/gameinprogress. This way I can easily see all my tables and decide for myself which one I want to join next.

It doesn't take you to a random table, it takes you to the table with the least amount of time remaining I believe. If there's more than one of these (eg. Friendly games have no time remaining, so they all go at the end), then it may be choosing randomly, but I suspect there's just a different ordering. Note I am just basing this on my own experience, but I know it will always take you to a game where you're over time first (if you have one). I also know that if I start progressing through tables on one device (eg. working through tables on a mobile device because I'm out) and then stop in the middle and ask another device to take over (eg. desktop when I get home), it will generally take me to the table I was "up to" on my first device. Also, when I skip through the whole list (which sometimes I do because I have a few games I'm planning to do a tutorial on before taking my first move), it always does so in the same order. So the ordering is not random - it's designed to ensure you play tables where you're low on time (or out of time) first.

I personally use it all the time to work through my list of waiting tables - if it took me back to the in progress page in between each one, that would be hugely irritating (I realise if implemented it would probably be an option, but I still can't imagine why going to in progress between tables waiting would be an improvement).

Also, you know you can always get to the games in progress page by clicking the view tables button at the bottom of the avatar side menu?

I'm perfectly aware it's determined on the server side based on certain criteria, which is why I put "random" in quotes. I didn't go into specifics for brevity sake. The fact remains that if I have several turn-based games in progress, from my point of view it is "random" since I have no idea where the button will take me next.

The improvement would be that I would have control over what game I want to play next as explained in my previous post. I don't want to be taken to a seemingly random table. I understand you don't like the idea and that's fine. That's why the extension has options.

I will have a look to new suggestions ... but later :)

I have just released version 1.11.10, which contains fixes for the dark mode for the following games :
- Churn
- Garden Rush

This version contains also the following new features
- Possibility to auto hide in-game chat (in games settings section of the extension)
- New settings for fast table creation to automatically restrict the tables created to players of almost the same level as me
