Can you learn against the computer before joining ranked?

Nope. There's no AI play on the site. But, you can turn off ELO ranking. Also, if you'd like to limit your game to other people of similar skill level, you can set it up to only accept beginners or saying something in the table description that it's a learning game. No pressure.

It's better (in my opinion, of course -- your mileage may vary) to set up a game, turn ELO off, and then put in that you want to learn. If you limit it to only beginners, you'll have people stumbling with you. If an expert joins, they are more likely to be willing to take the time to explain the game.

But, yeah, you can always turn ELO off to learn the game before having to worry about what your ranking in it is.
