We need your help with these gnomes!

Post by v_wegwarte »

Hello community!

Nirds vs. Gnomes is a cooperative dice game where you command an army of nerdy birds (Nirds) to survive incoming waves of garden gnomes and their boss. The rules are straight forward but winning takes some TEAMWORK! Yes, this game is highly cooperative. And we want to bring this game to the next level by adding YOU to the team.

This game sounds right up your alley? Dive into Nirds vs. Gnomes here on Board Game Arena and let us know your thoughts and honest opinion on the game.

:!: Of course, our team will join games here and there. And we'd like to discuss ideas with you in this forum.

We’ll share more on that project over the next months here, on our social media channels and website.

Happy playing! :)

I really like this game but it's too hard to beat imo. Also I think there should be more options to undo on your turn (before you roll the dice).

Hi uychulg,
Can you tell me what you would like to undo ? I though I made main actions undoable, but maybe i forgot some important one. Feel free to be more precise.

And the game can be balanced thanks to your feedback, we stay tuned. ;) (but you will see that after few games you don't feel it so hard to beat.)

Will a solo mode be implemented? That will help with testing the core digital implementation of the game as people can spam games more easily.

Could you share what is the win rate right now for this game? I presume it is quite low since we all have to fumble around with learning the rules and interacting with the UI but taking that into account what is the win rate like right now and how many games on average does the development team expect before you start winning?

Yeah, there seems, at this point, to have way too much RNG in the game. You need the correct rolls to avoid armor, but also high enough to deal enough damage to beat the enemy.

Scientis cards help a bit with this, but they aren't enough, specially because the Nirds and Scientists enter tapped when you acquire them.

Maybe armor should only reduce damage (for 1, 2) instead of completely negating the damage? Or at least make weakness deal much more, like +3, +5, and so on.

Becaue I'm pretty sure a game in which players lose 90% of the games due to dice rolls won't be a good seller or attract players.

I was thinking that I'm not sure that turns are helping, at least online.
I think there should be an option where you can just do your actions when you like without bothering about everyone playing in sequence.
I don't think that sequence play changes enough in terms of strategy to justify it being enforced when simultaneous play can clearly makes things faster online (especially in turn-based mode).

I don't really mind the randomness.
I'll have to see with the experience whether the game is short enough for that or not.

Maybe some nirds should have attacks that are less random or not random at all.
(some nirds where you don't reroll the dice for the attack, some where you set the attack dice to "3",... )

Maybe the cards shouldn't be tapped when we acquire them though, that does feel annoying and means that we cannot tailor our purchases to the dice we have now which seems like a reduction in strategy. (If we could then we would have to balance the immediate need with the long term suitability.)

We upped the difficulty recently because we were winning like 99% of our games. There are ways to make the game easier. Would you guys like a game option for that?

What exactly does "recently" mean? When did you change this?
Looking at your game history I see wins and losses.

What are the changes that kick in to make the game easier? Do the stats on BGA match what the development team is currently expecting? Are people on BGA winning too much or too little?
