Why do I need to manually open the table on another page after creating it in the new lobby?

Post by Infi220 »

When I create a turn-based game table in the new lobby (i.e. https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=abc ) and invite my friend, he can't join. I still need to navigate to the "Play Now" tab and find our game table there, where it says "You did not open this table for joining yet" and shows me a button to "open" it. This is quite cumbersome. If I create a table in the new lobby, why do I need to go to a completely different page to open it, or am I doing something wrong?

In spite of the fact that it says you need to open the table for joining, I don't believe you do anymore. And I believe that your friend should be join. If you are inviting them specifically, they should get a popup to join the table (I do this all the time with my partner and he just gets popup invites when he is next on). If you're expecting them to search for your table, I think that has taken a bit longer sometimes for reasons I can't understand, but when I was testing out how this worked between my and my partner's account, again, I didn't have to do anything special for them to be able to join (except sometimes wait for their table to find and merge with my table).

Thanks for the reply. We tried again just now and I was able to obtain more details: he does get an email invite and a pop-up, which he clicks to join. But when he joins the game doesn't start. In his game lobby it shows both of us at the table and a big text that says "Waiting": https://snipboard.io/wE4QiY.jpg. At the same time, on my end it looks like this: https://snipboard.io/oPQcAh.jpg. This is Memoir '44, btw.

This sounds like some kind of bug? I start loads of games like this (between all sorts of combos from my friends list - 2p right up to 7p) and we've never had an issue. That said, because there's often a lot of us joining, I think everyone just joins and waits to be notified it's their turn. It's possible it just takes some time to start (I don't know why, but possible). Have you tried just waiting? I'm taking it that you're expecting the game to start immediately once your friend has joined. I'm not saying that's still not a bug of some kind, but that might explain the difference in what you're seeing to what I am.

The other thing is you mentioned you navigate to the old lobby and "open" the table - does that actually resolve the problem? Or does it still take a while? Cause if I start a game from the new lobby, I don't bother doing that, and we still have the same experience.

Yes, we waited for several hours or even days. Opening the table in the old lobby solved the problem immediately. However, we tried it again just now and it works properly without having to open the table, so perhaps it was just a temporary issue. We experienced it only with Memoir '44 but since then I was manually opening tables for all games because I thought it was necessary. I'll stop doing it from now on and see if it the problem reoccurs.
