Arena resetting issues

It appears that for leagues with bronze, silver and elite, relegation for folks in elite was brought all the way back to bronze. Shouldn't it be silver?

Was this a game in which the number of tiers was reduced to just bronze and elite for the current season?

No, I wish that were the case. Knarr, Harmonies, 61 Autumn Leaves, etc. All of them still have 3 tiers.

As far as I know you are always demoted 3 tiers after an Arena season.

If there is, e.g., Elite, Diamant, Platinum, all Elite player end up in Gold. If there is, e.g., only Elite, Gold, Silver, Elite players end up in Bronze.

From the Arena 21 announcement post on the forum a week ago…

“At the end of each season, after winners have been awarded, you are relegated.

Some custom relegation rules may have been applied to games for some reason (ex: we decided to update the number of leagues), but in general here is what happens:

For games with 6 or 5 different leagues, all players are decreased by 3 leagues.
For games with 4 different leagues, all players are decreased by 2 leagues.
For games with 2 or 3 different leagues, all players are decreased by 1 league.
For all games and all leagues, your number of Arena points is reset to 1, and your AES ("Arena Elo") is reset to 1500.”

A quick check on Knarr, it was three leagues in both season 20 and 21. The current leading player ended season 20 as Elite but started season 21 down at Bronze (three quick wins and they hit Silver already). So, that does seem at odds to the above except the “in general” caveat and that exceptions may be made.

Honestly, for a game I like enough to play in Arena, getting bumped back to Bronze and then climbing back six levels to Elite over 90 days feels so much more worth it.

in Tichu there are only 3 leagues (Bronze/Silver/Elite) but all players (including myself) who were Elite at the end of S20 seem to have been relegated by 2 leagues below as opposed to just 1. i think BGA made a mistake, either by not announcing this new change or by wrongly relegating players for certain games.

The same thing happened in Agricola, but there has been no response from BGA, which makes me question whether they ever read these posts.

They sometimes do, but this is not the appropriate mechanism for providing feedback. There is a specific bug reporting system that doesn't require them to doom scroll the forums looking for issues.
