Interaction rate?

Post by pusher »

Hello,
I think that this game should have more than 1 in "interaction".
You have to check others dinosaurs and others boards, in order to make a good choice.
What do you think?

"Interaction" is meaningless, or rather it means different things for different people. It looks like for many (it may depend on how it is "translated" into each language) it means only the amount of direct off-board player-to-player interaction, as in trades or alliances.

Exactly. When I think of "interaction," the first thing that comes to mind is directly being able to affect things the other player has done. So being able to capture or otherwise remove a piece on the board/tableau, whether the players share a board or have their own board/tableau, is the most acute form of interaction. The next form of interaction is being able to block the opponent's progress. So you don't undo something they've done, but you alter the landscape in a way that forces them to do something differently. The next form is being able to take a resource they want, like in worker placement games or drafting games. Maybe this also falls under blocking.

Then there's all the games where you trade things.

Then there's games with a meta-interaction like alliances.

So I'd say Draftosaurus is interactive because of the drafting aspect. You're paying attention specifically to know what is the best set of dinosaurs to pass to the next player. But is it more interactive than capturing pieces? I'd say certainly not. Is it more interactive than trading resources? Depends on who you ask.

By the way, what I mean is meaningless is the "interaction" score in BGA, not "interaction" as a concept :)
