My suggestion for 2/3 players:
Number clues stay the same. clue 1, 2, 3, 4, means play respectively first, second third and fourth card (from left to right) 5 means save your rightmost chop.

For colors, go the opposite direction: white means play first card from the _right_, blue, second from the right, etc. Red means do not discard anything (same as white in 4/5 player games).

Who wants to try 2P with me? :)
thanks !

feedback is : too perfect in fact, got 30 around 10 times in a row in 2P.

After a few plays, here's my updated suggestion for 2/3 players.

Cards numbered 1 2 3 4 5 (1 is your newest card)
1, 2, 3, 4 mean play card 1 2 3 or 4 respectively
Y G B W mean play card 2 3 4 or 5 respectively
R means save your current chop
5 means either: it is crystal clear why 5 is the best clue OR I have nothing better to do.

We Just played a 3p game. A situation occurred where a player was locked into zugzwang by a Red clue (don't discard anything). There were no playable cards to clue, but any clue given by them would tell us not to discard. Therefore, we had no way for that player to do nothing.

thats true, being forced to clue - eg with 8 tokens, or full hand, and have nothing to clue is annoying. sometime you can give a nonsense clue, from a logical pov, but mb we should assume a way to give a non-clue while being forced to clue, maybe the 5 clue should do that, when given in this situation. i not sure its good..

Very interesting convention! How about introducing a way to free up a hand that has been told not to discard and can't play anything?
Eg 1,2,3,4,5 = play 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th card, r,y,g = you can discard 1st/2nd/3rd card. b= you can discard 1st or 2nd card, w you can discard 1st,2nd or 3rd. Only applies to players that have been told not to discard anything.

JD,
What do think about using this system but instead of cluing the person you want to play. Clue, for example, the player after them.

Example (4P game):
LH1: 2W 5M 1Y 3G
LH2: 4R 3B 1M 2G
LH3: X X X X

Clue LH2 G (or 3) to tell LH1 to play their 3rd card (1Y).

If you clue LH3, that is telling LH2 to play (or save) something. If you clue LH1, that is telling LH3 to play (or save) something.

The benefit of this is that 1 extra card is getting information for each clue (all the cards in the hand receiving the clue and the card it refers to in the other hand.

Want to give it a try? :)

You are lucky that you are able to give empty clues on bga. If I recall correctly it is forbidden to do so according to the board game rules. ;)

You don't recall correctly. It was a rule invented by the (US?) publisher, the author never forbid it and even made a blog post clarifying that it indeed is a legal move.

for me this convention is ugly, it is like if you say : play this one, and with luck , it help for the others.

This method is extremely efficient. It also removes a lot of ambiguity. The traditional conventions can easily be misread. The only issue is making sure to not double clue cards. But with more than one to say the same thing, it gives flexibility.
