Why does it not tell you how to do a takeover

I've never played take over before and I read the rules on takeovers thinking okay I get that. I then proceeded to play multiple games where I had the superior military and picked settle to takeover my way to victory. Settle turn comes around I click the planet I want to take over... Nothing happens... I click another planet.... Nothing happens... I think damn I must have misread how this takeover thing works, scratch up a miscalculation by me and skip the phase. New game larger military same situation... Rinse and repeat once more and get frustrated. Click on the card to re read the takeover function and haza it now asks me do I want to perform a takeover?! Why oh why does it not say anywhere to use the take over function you need to click the card that has the takeover power and then select your planet?!? Rant over, can we please make this more obvious for fools like me.
