Too slow

Post by KrakenQc »

I think the fastest game length option is way too slow. Also, the game description says that luck is 1 out of 5, but that's totally inaccurate — luck plays a major role here

Maybe, just maybe, if you spent more time thinking about your moves the role of luck would also decrease. 1/5 may be a tad too low, but I definitely wouldn't go above 2/5 (1.5 or so could be close so maybe it would be fair to round up to 2).

Yeah, I just had a 56 arena game win streak ended. There are a lot of ways to mitigate luck. That being said, it's obviously not a boop. that has 0 luck, so 2 would probably be appropriate, but it really is very minimal (at least in 2 players)

I decent person plays as quickly as they can, without waiting out the allowed 2/3/4 minutes. I see this more more like a safety margin in case a user get distracted with something, so that they won`t get a penalty or won`t get kicked out.

As for luck, sure, strategy means a lot and if you play well you will almost always win, but even strong players score between 90 and 150 points depending on how the game goes, and this is a very big gap for a game with a low luck factor, I think

Of course purposefully waiting out the clock every turn is just being a dick, but that has nothing to do with the issue discussed. You should play at a speed you're comfortable with (that's why I play almost exclusively turn-based games - I like to think and analyze my options). What I was trying to say in my original reply was that perhaps OP is playing too fast for his own good.

As for the score variance, it has very little to do with the amount of luck involved. The game is played for victory, not for high score, and the winrate is the only statistic that matters when discussing about luck. For example, in Azul the top players (1000+ ELO) have scores from 30s to over 100 in their games but their 90%+ winrate clearly shows that this score variance doesn't tranlate into winrate variance. Also Chess games in high level tournaments have wild variance in length (moves) and there's no luck in Chess.
