I understand what you are trying to say, but I don't think that logic holds up to scrutiny. No one seems to be proposing being completely dogmatic about setting an immutable line.

I disagree, I think everyone would benefit from the game enforcing the rules. When I join games on fast I do so to play with people who enjoy a fast game, not to sit and wait for entilted kids who think the rules do not apply to them.

Again, there is a difference between overt flaunting of the rules and going a few seconds over time once. It's a glitchy enough website (at least once a week it has an issue), and that's only one of the reasons that someone might go over time that has nothing to do with not following the rules. There is no reason to ruin a perfectly good game just because someone goes over time briefly once.

You're forgetting that the time bank exists and this is exactly what it is for. Ark Nova on Fast speed gives player 59 seconds per turn with a maximum time bank of 3 minutes. If someone boots a player at -10 seconds they are not kicking a player that is 10 seconds over their time, they are kicking a player that is 2 minutes and 10 seconds over their time because they have used up their time bank. Hey look, the extra 2 minutes you were looking for!

If you think players deserve an extra 2 minutes before being booted why not just add that to the time bank and make it 5 minutes? Well playing on Normal speed instead of Fast gives 4 minutes of time bank, and slow speed gives 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Play on the speed that gives the amount of time bank you feel is appropriate before someone gets kicked and it will be impossible for someone at your table to kick before that.

Did you say to the players you need time for playing? I met many players who play over turn timer but only few ones said "sry" "i need time" or such things after or before playing....

Playing slow is your issue, not their. If you can't keep up, choose slower games. When I join a certain time control I expect the game to end in a certain amount of time and I would like the other players to respect that. People whining about being kicked always remind me of a discord server for polytopia game. It's explicitly stated in the rules that you can't shame people for kicking on time-outs. You being annoyed at being kicked is one side. The other is people annoyed because they can't close the game in a reasonable time.

I used to have time issues with Ark Nova as well, but ever since I turned down the animations in the settings I don't think I have timed out. Seriously try it. Set animations to minimum and it will feel as though you had twice as much time.

That's a good point about animations - it helps. And I agree about communication. Someone going over time more than once with no communication is taking a major risk, and likely being inconsiderate.

That's an interesting option which I've not tried. Our playgroup often starts a game expecting it to finish in real-time but the game is started as turn-based so that we have the flexibility to continue it later, in case someone has to leave to attend to some real-world issue, like making dinner. This means that there's no time pressure and that can make games go slowly as some players like to take their time figuring out all the options and avoiding mistakes. So, if there's an option to start a game as real-time but then switch to turn-based by mutual agreement, that might be a good compromise.

My personal rules are as follows:
- I try to never go over time.. if I do (long turn, many actions, etc), I try to keep it as little over time as possible and immediately send a quick apology note in the chat.
- if my opponent goes over by more than a few seconds, I send a first note of "please mind your time"
- if it happens again, I send a note of something like "really don't want to cancel you but you're going over a lot. Please don't go over again."
- if it happens a third time, I may cancel them.

I checked and you and I haven't played so can't have been me although I have done this before and will do again. I always choose to play fast games, if you can't play within the time limits afforded then choose game with a bigger time bank!
I start a game in the knowledge of what time (ISH) I'm likely to finish.
